Garvin:  Jos Leduc?   Uh, Gordon.  I don't know about Jos Leduc... or what his trip is, but Jos Leduc is owned - body and soul- by Sonny King.  (Solie is stunned.)

Solie: Well, Jimmy, I've known Jos Leduc for quite some time and I can assure you that I've never known Mr. Leduc to have any dealings with anyone like Sonny King.

Garvin: Well Gordon, I can't really go into how I know about this right now, but I'm absolutely sure that Jos Leduc is owned by Sonny King.

Solie: Well, some rather interesting remarks from Jimmy Garvin (end of interview).

The following week Gordon invites Jos Leduc to answer the allegations that Jimmy Garvin had made about him.   Leduc told Gordon, "Gordon, we've been friends for a long time.  I tell you as your friend, I would never have anything to do with someone like "Sonna King".  I don't know why "Jimma Garvin" is saying this about me, but as your friend, I shake your hand, right here and tell you that I have nothing to do with "Sonna King".

Solie is very pleased and happily thanks Leduc for coming on the program to clear things up.

A few minutes later, Solie brings Garvin on to let him know that he talked with Jos.  He tells him, "I spoke to Jos Leduc earlier in the program and ....Well, I think Mr. Leduc has cleared this matter up entirely."

Garvin:  Well, Gordon.  I don't know about that, I don't know about that at all.  After the program last week, I traveled 2 days straight to Memphis, Tennessee to obtained a copy of a video tape to back up my word...

Solie asks them to roll the tape.

Lance Russell is commentating a match between Jerry Lawler (a good guy at the time) and Jos Leduc.

Lance:  LEDUC....HAS HIM UP.... AND OOOOOO! (Leduc throws Lawler straight out over the top rope and several rows into the crowd.)

(Scene changes to Dressing Room)

Sonny King and a couple of other wrestlers are putting $100.00 bills in Leduc's hands.

Leduc: "Monneeey,, Monnneeeyyy, ha, ha"

Lance: Sonny, what's this, eh, Hundred dollar bills....

Sonny King: Ya see Lance, this the deal we had.  The first one to put the opponent in the hospital, we'll pay... And here he is, Joe Leduc... The New Heeero udda South!

LEDUC (Yelling Loudly):  JERRY LAWLERRRRRRR!!!  WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE IN THE HOSPITAL.  HUH??  "WUZZIT LOOK LIKE IN DA 'MERGENCY' ROOM".   See,I'm not pretty boy, I gotta lotta mark on my head, BUT I NEVER BEEN HOSPITAL IN MA LIFE, HAHAHA. ............ LAWLERRRRRR!!!  LAST MONDAY NIGHT, IT WAS 15 FEET IN THE AIR AND TEN FEET DATWAY!!! (End of tape).

Solie is shocked and begins to comment "Well I just can't believe what we..."  (LOUD DOOR SLAM) LEDUC STORMS ONTO THE SET --

"GARVENNNN!  WHAT DA HELL YOU TRYIN' TO DO DA ME BOY! ..... WHUYA DOIN' DA ME.  WA YOU TINK YER DOIN'.. HAH!!"

Leduc reaches over the desk and grabs Garvin into a Bear Hug while Growling "GRRRRRRRRRRR"  Solie is Frantic  ---"JOE...JOE STOP IT JOE.....FOR GOD SAKES JOE STOP IT MAN!!!

Leduc slams Garvin into the Concrete wall, Garvin lets out a loud scream of helplessness while trying to pound on Leduc's back to get him to stop.  Blood starts to seep out of Garvin's mouth while he's rendered all but motionless.   Solie continues... JOE!  STOP!! ..STOP IT JOE.. YOU'RE GONNA KILL 'EM!

Leduc finally drops Garvin on the Ground as Sonny King takes hold of him to calm him down and lead him off the set.  Garvin is carried out looking completely lifeless with a mouth full of blood.  From that day forward, Jos Leduc was one of the meanest "heels" CWF had ever seen.

Gordon Solie's execution of this angle was a great example of his impeccable talent. He provided the lead in, the follow-ups and brought the entire angle home with his frantic yelling during the attack on Jimmy Garvin. Even during the one remaining match that followed, he remained completely shaken up during his commentary.  He sounded as upset as a person would be if they just got news that their entire family had been wiped out in an horrible accident.  No one preserved kayfabe better than Gordon Solie.

I've never seen any tape for sale or trade that contains this angle (occurred in either '77 or '78).  If you do, please e-mail to let me know where to find it.  I'd love to pick up a copy.

NEXT MONTH:

We'll look back at Dusty Rhodes' days as a "bad guy" and his transformation into "The American Dream", the most popular and charismatic Wrestler the State of Florida had ever seen!

Till next time, So Long From The Sunshine State!
