GWF #2 Page #2
Eventually, DP challenged the Patriot. Both men met January 31, 1992 and the fight ensued. Near the end, the Patriot had a foreign substance thrown into his face, which ended up causing him to lose the title. The Patriot disappeared from the GWF after that match and emerged in WCW a few months later. The Dark Patriot held onto the North American title for almost two months until he lost it to "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert on March 27, 1992. Gilbert was the GWF Television champion at the time and had just finish a good feud with Terry Simms. Gilbert went on to defend the GWF North American title but eventually left the area and went to the USWA in Memphis. He took the North American belt with him and was even recognized in Memphis as the GWF World Heavyweight champion without the consent of the GWF. Eventually, Gilbert was stripped of the "official" GWF North American title on May 24, 1992. On June 8, 1992, USWA Unified World champion Jerry Lawler defeated Eddie Gilbert to unify his title with Gilbert's "non-official" GWF World title. This was the last time Eddie and Doug Gilbert were seen in Texas.
