WWC #12 Page #2

The other feud that was brewing during this time period was the one between Invader #1 and Al Perez in a student vs. teacher feud. For a long time Al Perez was one of the most popular wrestlers in Puerto Rico being part of a tag team called the Rockers with Jumping Joe Savoldi.  After Savoldi left the island to work for UWF, Al Perez started wrestling singles and doing an on and off again tag team with The Invader #1 but thanks to a mistake Al Perez betrayed Invader #1. The night it happened they were in a match when the White Knight interfered with a 2x4 and hit Al Perez.  Invader saw this and fought the White Knight and took the 2x4 away and Al Perez saw Invader #1 holding the 2x4 and attacked Invader and broke the 2x4 over his head as he thought Invader #1 had hit him. For several weeks Invader tried to talk to Al Perez and they decided to meet in a restaurant and as Invader was making his case to Al Perez, Chicky Starr walked in and took Al Perez with him leaving Invader 1 and announcer Hugo Savinovich speechless.

Later in the show Al Perez was a guest on Chicky Starr's Sport Shop where Starr let the world know that Al Perez was joining his group. This let to a great series of  matches including one of the greatest street fights in the history of WWC.  In Caguas, the feud escalated when Invader #1 recaptured the TV title from Ron Starr and they started feuding over the title with Al Perez defeating Invader #1 to become World TV Champ. Sad to say the feud never finish as Al Perez left WWC to go to World Class (if I'm not mistaken).

NEXT MONTH:

We are going to continue talking about 1986 especially the ending when a new Puerto Rican wrestler began his fight against Carlos Colon for the Universal Title and the debut of Jason The Terrible.  Hope you guys enjoyed this column and if you have any questions write me an e-mail at Cuevas@McClier.com and I would be more than happy to provide answers.
