GCW #4 Page #2

Eadie teamed with another masked man in late 1981 to form a very devastating tag team that won the National tag team titles.  Scott Irwin, or The Super Destroyer, had brought his superplex into Georgia, this hold was a huge deal at the time.  A man of his size, agility, and balance was rarely seen in this time.  He was also a National champion and won the tag titles with Big John Studd.  But his team with Eadie is the one that I truly believe fit perfectly.  He later removed the mask to team with his brother, Bill, as the Long Riders.

Near the end of GCW, a legendary masked man entered the area with a knack for walking the ring ropes and trying to crush a man's skull with his clawhold.  Don Jardine had been in Georgia in the 70s, but when The Spoiler returned in 1983-1984, he won the National title on several occasions.  He was very entertaining, as he would have an opponent in an armlock, climb to the top turnbuckle and walk the ropes, then jump onto them with a forearm to the shoulder area.  That too was a big deal at the time.

Of course, there were other masked men who were in the area, the imposter Mr. Wrestling and Mr. Wrestling II, Mr. X in the 70s, and who could forget Dr. Judo????????  And there were masked jobbers who always got unmasked after the match just to show other masked men that their opponent is out to unmask them.  The masked men made for great rivalries, and for the most part they were some of the best workers the industry.

NEXT MONTH:

We’ll look at Mr. Wrestling II, his feuds and accomplishments in Georgia.  Until then, So Long From The Peach State of Georgia!
