Never understood that, because George was as talented as they came. His biggest matches were televised matches against Ric Flair, and a 20 minute broadway (a "draw") at the 1987 Crockett Cup teaming with Steve Keirn against Nelson Royal and Mike Graham. George went on to star and headline in shows around the Carolinas and has his own wrestling federation now out of Concord, NC... EXODUS WRESTLING.
Ben Alexander (R.I.P.) Ben worked under the hood when I first saw him as The Golden Terror. Once again, Head Booker Dusty dropped the ball (you
know, I think perhaps that guy on the MACW tribute site, John Hitchock, was on to something after all). Ben was used as "enhancement talent" by JCP, but headlined matches in South Africa. A great worker with a legit amateur background. And a true friend. Ben could make any worker look like a million dollars. I am proud to say I got to know the man behind the mask because Ben was truly a talented professional.
Now, without question, the two biggest stars "stars" in JCP at this time are STILL a cult favorite. As with the M.O.D. Squad, these are two brothers from Anderson, SC. Randy and Bill Mulkey didn't look like professional wrestlers. They looked like the guys you would see working a drive-thru window. I would GUESS they weighed about 170 lbs. a piece (and this is the era BEFORE Rey, Jr. and Spike Dudley, mind you.) It got so bad, that the fans would actually PAY to see them get a whuppin', prompting Jim Cornette to coin the phrase " MULKEY MANIA "JCP's" answer " to an excuse for a World Champion a certain promoter up North was marketing. (Think "GILLberg" Duane Gill and you'll understand.) The Mulkey's shining moment came when they defeated the Masked Gladiators (George South and Gary Royal) to enter the Crockett Cup. They also had a match against The Midnight Express in Anderson, SC where THEY SOLD OUT THE BUILDING (hometown boys...) with a 45 minute match against Bobby and Stan. The joke was they were the number 13 contenders for the US tag team title and JCP only had about 9 teams active at the time, but nevertheless, "MULKEY MANIA" ran wild for a few years or so. I think Randy (?) still does indy shows in the Carolinas and I'm not sure what the "other one" ( Bill -?- ) does now, but I hope those few years "on top" were fun.
I know these guys helped make my life much easier. Gotta love the guys that always loose. It makes OUR lives seem much easier. Until next time, try to be good...
