PNW #13 Page #2
Haru debuted in as a wrestler on December 12th, 1955 in a battle royal in Portland. He was the 7th man out. His first match as a single was also in Portland and it took place on January 16th, 1956. He captured a win over Reginald Siki. Since that first match his wrestling travels have taken him to many places including Canada, California, New York, Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama, Mid Atlantic and Chicago.
In 1957 Sasaki captured the World tag titles as recognized in Salt Lake City with the late Tosh Togo. He also held the Missouri State Belt and the Oklahoma Title as well as the Arkansas Lightweight Title. He also captured the SF version of the World Tag titles with Kinji Shibuya. He held the NW tag titles five times with three different partners in King Curtis, Stan Stasiak and Mr. Fuji.
Sasaki claimed his toughest opponents were Pat O’Conner and Lonnie Mayne. His favorite tag partners were Tosh Togo & Mr. Fuji. Haru recieved his share of injuries breaking his collar bone twice and also injuring his knee several times.
One story Haru once told was wrestling Paul Bunyan who was billed at 8 foot 3 against his 5’6 inch frame. Another interesting story took place in Portland between King Curtis and Lonnie Mayne. Haru was handcuffed to the ringpost and was still there as the matches were over and the lights were being turned out after everyone had left.
Promoter Dean Silverstone tells one story, "Haru was a extremely unique individual, although he was somewhat annoyed by the fact that he had to portray the evil Japanese, sly, sneaky ring character. In reality, he was a warm and caring individual and a very family oriented man."
After retiring Haru worked as a car salesman and also worked for Safeway. Haru enjoyed playing golf.
