Feature: A montage comparing Andre the Giant and King Kong (Bruiser) Brody
Neat
feature with a voice over by Larry comparing these two megastars who were going
to face off at the
Kiel
on
September 14, 1979
. It was fun seeing the clips of Andre from the WWWF days, routinely destroying
2-3 jobbers at a time. The next clip would be Brody destroying somebody with a
dropkick (still impressive 24 years later) or a flying kneedrop. Seeing Brody
brought back a lot of memories and made me think of the stories of him holding
up promoters over the years. Wonder how he was with Sam Muchnick?

The reason
I capitalized "Mike's" name is that this might be the
first St.
Louis appearance of Dick the Bruiser's son-in-law "Spike" Huber.
Don't know if Mickey just got it wrong, or he was actually going by
"Mike" at the time. Great tag match featuring 3 veterans and one
pretty green rookie. Huber took most of the bumps for his team and did a great
job of selling. This match had all the classic tag team spots: choke with the
tag rope, heels double teaming the face in their corner, the "face in
peril" spot, with Huber taking a pretty good beating, the "pop the
ears to get out of the bearhug", and, of course, the "hot tag"
spot. O'Connor worked this to perfection - he got a HUGE pop and the studio
audience on their feet when he finally tagged in from a beaten Huber.
The match ended in a ten minute draw. Pretty good booking, I thought.

Normally,
I have never been a big fan of women's wrestling. This was a very short match
(about 3 minutes) that Combs won with the "Victory Roll". Even though
I have never been the big fan of the women's game, compared with today's
product, these women could WORK! There was mat wrestling, reversals, headlocks,
arm bars, etc. Not bad at all, and circles around Chyna, Trish Stratus, etc.
In
summary, a heck of a show that did not even feature Harley, Dusty, Bruiser, or
Murdoch. It did its job, setting up the big upcoming house show at the
Kiel
. Hope you enjoyed this month's article. See you on the message board!
