Of course Jake Roberts smashed Mike's plaque to bits touching off a feud between these two. Mike eventually defeated Jake, who was heading east to Mid-South, with the Iron Claw.

Titles

On the championship scene, Gino Hernandez continued his incredible domination of the Texas Title. On January 11, 1985 The Midnight Express captured the American Tag Team Title at The Sportatorium via some interference from Jim Cornette. Chris Adams captured the American Title from Kerry Von Erich at The Sportatorium in Dallas on February 8, 1985 after a big assist from the One Man Gang. The Fort Worth based TV title began the year in the hands of Chris Adams. Billy Jack Haynes claimed it on January 7, 1985. The belt wound up vacant when Haynes bolted from the territory and Rip Oliver won a tournament held on February 4, 1985 to win the championship. The Six Man Title was still in the hands of Kevin, Kerry, and Mike Von Erich.

Billy Jack Haynes beat Kelly Kiniski

This was one of Billy Jack Haynes' final bouts in the promotion. He left without notice shortly thereafter.

Kerry Von Erich defeated Kamala by disqualification to retain the American Heavyweight Title

Kamala made his first appearance in World Class since May 1984 in this bout, losing by disqualification to his old rival Kerry. This was a way for Kerry to defend his title against a perceived threat, yet not give away the upcoming match with Chris Adams too soon.

One Man Gang defeated Jose Lothario

One Man Gang had recently debuted and was mowing down the competition. Jose was still beloved, but was nearing the end of his career. OMG made short work of him here.

Kevin Von Erich beat Rip Oliver.

This bout was a change of pace for Kevin from his many bouts with Chris Adams. For Rip Oliver it was a chance to wrestle a main event caliber wrestler on a major card and it helped his credibility, even in defeat.

Chris Adams, Gino Hernandez, and Jake Roberts defeated The Fabulous Freebirds to earn a shot at the Six Man Tag Team Title

The Fabulous Freebirds were actually wrestling in Florida on a fulltime basis at this time. However they returned for one night only, as babyfaces, to participate in this Star Wars card.  Their foes, Adams, Hernandez, and Roberts were the former champs and heavily pushed. They gained a win and moved on to the title shot.

The Midnight Express defeated The Fantastics to retain the American Tag Team Title

Pretty much a standard battle between these two outstanding teams with Cornette keeping the fans riled with his antics and the wrestlers enthralling the fans with the action in the ring.

Kevin, Kerry, and Mike Von Erich defeated Chris Adams, Gino Hernandez, & Jake Roberts to retain the World Class Six Man Tag Team Title

With Jake Roberts on the way out of the area and Mike Von Erich about to take some time off due to shoulder problems, this bout was the swan song for the Six Man Title in a way. The championship would still exist, but would receive far less of a push in the coming months. Meanwhile this bout kept three major feuds at a fever pitch and with Jake being pinned, kept Chris and Gino strong.

NEXT MONTH:

We look at the spring of 1985 as World Class sped towards the Parade of Champions at Texas Stadium. All the big feuds will climax and some new talent arrives on the scene. See you then!
