The second fall The Mauler goes to punch me and I was so on edge when he got to within six inches of me I flew backwards across the ring.. I am lying face down on the mat and I am afraid to look up. When I finally do he is looking at his fist like an old time gunslinger on TV just after he has shot the bad guy.
I go to the dressing room to apologize and he just looks at me. I did not know what to expect. It seemed like an eternity when he finally busted out laughing. He says next time at least let me touch you.
The air rushed back into my lungs, I was at ease and he was OK with me. Things were back to normal.
Oh, my worst nightmare....
We go back out for the third fall and it was like a burden had been lifted off my shoulders. Everything was great until Charlie Cook bealed Larry from one corner to another and the ring broke.
It sagged in the corner where Larry had landed. The mat was slick and Charlie and I fell and slid right into the corner on top of Larry. We were all laughing so hard we could not get up and we were killing Larry trying to get off of him. He was cussing us, the ring, the business and anyone else he could think of at that moment.
RIP Larry Hamilton, it was my pleasure to have worked with you and to have known you...
