As we got close enough to see what happened we realized this guy had been riding a motorcycle and had been struck by a car. We were the first to arrive on the scene, so we pulled over and ran to check on this man. He had broken his leg and was scratched from head to toe. I bent over and helped him remove his helmet and propped his head up so that he would be a little more comfortable. He looked up at me and as sincerely as he could he said " That motorcycle is all I own in this world. Would you please roll it out of the way so it does not get hit again".
I looked up at Steve and Don and asked them to kick it out of gear and roll it over to the side of the road. The next thing I know this guy is trying to get up. He is fighting with me and it is all I can do to hold him down. I reminded him that his leg was broke and he should lie still. He pointed at his bike and I knew what his problem was. I told them to kick it out of gear. I had no idea neither one of them knew anything about a motorcycle. They were on either side of this motorcycle and they were literally putting the boots to it. They would push and push but it would not move and they would kick it some more.
I walked over between them and grabbed the handlebars. I squeezed the clutch with my left hand and with almost no effort I pushed the bike to the shoulder of the road. It embarassed them so bad they jumped in the car and hollered "Let's Go! We're gonna be late."
Be careful who you tell to "kick it outta gear"!!!!!
