- Chuck Merkich When it came to tag team wrestling, Texas All-Star could compete with any promotion in the world. They may not have had some of the bigger names in the business but one would never notice thanks to the thrilling matches. Continuing the tradition of exciting, edge of your seat wrestling begun in SWCW, TASW was home to many outstanding teams in the promotions short but memorable existence. Unlike the heavyweight title, the tag team championship continued forward with the lineage of SWCW. The Jonathon Boyd managed New Zealand Maoris, who were the current SWCW champions, therefore became the first recognized holders of the TASW tag team straps. They wouldn't remain champs for long though as they dropped the titles in the same week as the changeover to American Force, which consisted of Paul Diamond and Nick Kiniski, who were ironically, both Canadians. That set up a match between former friends Guerrero and Madril with Chavo coming out on top to take possession of both belts. Instead of finding a new partner to defend the titles with, Chavo decided to give the belts to former enemies, American Force on September 1,1985. Now consisting of Paul Diamond and Shawn Michaels(Michael Hickenbottom), who replaced the departed Nick Kiniski, The Force was just beginning a furious feud with the Masked Hoods (Ricky Santana & Tony Torres). The TASW tag titles would be the first title ever held by Michaels who would one day become one the most famous wrestlers ever. Their reign would be short however, as they dropped the belts to the Hoods on September 29,1985. More...
