- Jim Zordani In December of 1967, Reggie The Crusher Lisowski embarked on his first ever tour of Japan for the JWA Japanese Wrestling Association. Crusher made his Japanese debut on December 1st, 1967 in Takasaki, Japan teaming with Baron Scicluna to defeat Antonio Inoki and Shohei Giant Baba. Reggie also teamed with such other North American wrestling stars as Victor Rivera, Nick Kozak and Sputnik Monroe while on his initial Japanese tour. The biggest match for the Crusher on this particular visit to Japan was against JWA International champion Giant Baba on December 6th, 1967 in Tokyo, Japan. The Crusher lost that bout to Giant Baba by disqualification. Crusher Lisowski returned to Japan the very next month, January of 1968, for his second tour of the Orient. Crusher wrestled Giant Baba three times on this tour losing by pinfall on January 3rd, 1968 in Tokyo and losing by disqualification on both January 6th, 1969 in Osaka and January 27th, 1968 in Kumamoto. Crusher's other major singles bout on this tour took place on January 19th, 1968 in Tokyo and saw Crusher battle Antonio Inoki to a no contest. The rest of the tour had Crusher teaming with Bill Miller, King Curtis Iaukea, Ken Hollis and Ricky Hunter. Prior to Reggie's first tour of Japan, Crusher and Bruiser had lost the WWA tag team titles to Mitsu Arakawa and Dr Moto (Tor Kamata) on October 13th, 1967 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Arakawa and Moto also captured the AWA tag team titles from Pat O'Connor and Wilbur Snyder on December 2nd, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. Crusher and Bruiser received several rematches against Arakawa and Moto during 1968 in Chicago and Indianapolis but failed to win either the AWA or WWA tag team titles. Throughout 1968, the Crusher remained active in the AWA rekindling old feuds against Harley Race, Larry Hennig, Mad Dog Vachon, Doctor X and Chris Markoff. When Bruiser wasn't able to make it to AWA house shows, Crusher teamed with Verne Gagne, Billy Red Lyons, Cowboy Bill Watts and Mighty Igor Vodic. Finally on December 28th, 1968 at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago, Illinois, Dick the Bruiser and the Crusher defeated Mitsu Arakawa and Dr Moto to win the AWA tag team titles. More...
