 - Tony D.

On June 14, 1984, MEB returned to The Central States area after a short absence and he wrestled Mike Pagal in his return match. The match was shown on All-Star Wrestling on June 24, 1984.   Ring Announcer Terry Garvin said “This event is one fall with a 20 minute time limit, introducing, weighing 420 pounds, MEB, accompanied by his manager Sheik Abdullah”. Abdullah yelled “The Master of Illusion, Garvin”.

I believe that Terry Garvin and Abdullah ending up wrestling each other later in 1984. Garvin was less than enthusiastic about saying “Abdullah” let alone calling Abdullah either “Sheik Abdullah The Great” or “The Master of Illusion.” Kevin Wall said that Mike Pagal was 390 pounds, but Terry Garvin only announced him as 320 pounds. He was big, no doubt about it.   MEB has his face painted and he has a long chain with him. “Well, this marks the return to The Central States area of the man they call MEB, nobody seems to know exactly what it means” says Kevin Wall. I have a wrestling magazine that says that MEB stood for Man Eating Beast, but of course I can’t find the magazine so I don’t know what magazine I read that in.

I remember thinking it was cool that I knew what MEB stood for and Kevin Wall didn’t. They lock up and MEB gives Pagal a chop in the forehead and then MEB rakes Pagal’s eyes. Mike Pagal has a great amateur background, but it doesn’t help when MEB is biting him! MEB with punches. MEB is going right after Mike Pagal, and Kevin Wall said “That’s alot of getting after!” MEB chokes Pagal on the ring ropes as Kevin Wall says “Big and Bad with the emphasis, I guess, on both. That's what the back of his tights say, about MEB".

MEB is sticking his tongue out while he’s choking Pagal on the ropes. Pagal with an elbowsmash and some forearms shots. Pagal with an Irish Whip on MEB into the corner and Pagal follows him in, but MEB got out of the way. Pagal is staggering and MEB chops Pagal on the forehead and Pagal goes down. MEB with a kick to the stomach and MEB with a big splash that should’ve finished Pagal, but MEB went for another big splash and then he comes off the ropes again with an elbowdrop which finished off Pagal for the three count. Pagal is twitching on the mat. Sheik Abdullah wraps the chain around MEB and he and Referee Sonny Myers get MEB far enough away from Mike Pagal so he can roll out of the ring. Abdullah leads MEB out of the ring by the chain.  More...
