 - Tony D.

The first time I watched All-Star Wrestling was the first time I saw Marty Jannetty. It was in April of 1984. Marty Jannetty wrestled in a mixed tag-team match with his partner being (midget) Cowboy Lang. Jannetty and Lang faced the team of Roger "Nature Boy" Kirby and Little Tokyo. Jannetty and Lang won the match and Kevin Wall (the commentator) said: "Marty Jannetty, his first appearance on All-Star Wrestling..."

Days before that match, Marty Jannetty was involved in a match with one of The Grapplers, and when the other Grappler got involved, Ted Oates got involved as well. Ted and Jerry Oates (the team of Mr. High and Mr. Low) and Marty Jannetty were all from Columbus, Georgia. Ted and Jerry Oates were involved in a feud with The Grapplers (#1 and #2, aka Len Denton and Tony Anthony, The Dirty White Boys). The Grapplers and T. G. Stone wrestled in a few six-man tag team matches against Ted and Jerry Oates and Marty Jannetty.

Jerry was heading to Georgia, where he would soon team with Ronnie Garvin to win the National Tag Team titles from The Road Warriors. Ted started to wrestle more singles matches and Marty needed a partner in his feud with The Grapplers.

Marty Jannetty and Tommy Rogers became a tag-team known as The Uptown Boys and they feuded with The Grapplers. This Tommy Rogers is not the same Tommy Rogers that was one half of The Fantastics with Bobby Fulton. "Fantastic" Tommy Rogers wrestled in Georgia at the time, he had lighter and shorter brown hair, and he was smaller than "Uptown Boy" Tommy Rogers. Tommy Rogers of the Uptown Boys had darker brown hair, a beard and was heavier than "Fantastic" Tommy Rogers. The song "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC was the ring entrance music for The Uptown Boys.

Here are pictures of "Fantastic" Tommy Rogers and "Uptown Boy" Tommy Rogers, both pictures are from 1984, and roughly the same time.  More...
