- Rick Fields In this installment we will continue to track the achievements of Mr. Wrestling II in the Georgia area. Walker was a ten-time Georgia heavyweight champion, defeating Sputnik Monroe, Bill Watts, Ron Fuller, Buddy Colt, Nikolai Volkoff, Dick Slater, Stan Hansen, Angelo Mosca and The Superstar. He also held the Georgia tag titles with various partners, his best success being with Tim Woods. Walker had a long, bloody feud with Dick Slater in 1976-77 where they traded the Georgia title back and forth. I have an Apter mag stating that the feud between the two must end. It was always kind've funny to me to see Walker juice through his mask. It was a feud that I would've loved to have seen. II also had trouble being injured right before trips overseas. In one instance, Prof. Toru Tanaka "broke" Walker's neck with his variation of the cobra. II swore revenge from a hospital bed, and got it. A few years latter, Pak Song and Rock Hunter injured II. II vowed vengeance, from the same bed, and once again, he got his revenge. I guess it was GCW's way of keeping Walker on TV while he was on vacation. II and the Superstar had a long, legendary feud that had masks removed, imposters, and great heat. After Superstar beat II for the Georgia title in January 1979, he didn't want to mess with II. He sent Ernie Ladd, the North American champion in Mid South, to eliminate II. The next month, II defeated Ladd, took his North American belt, and went to Mid South to defend the belt for Bill Watts. II would eventually lose the belt several months later to Mike George, and come back to Georgia. II's arrival was marred by another masked man, one that looked and wrestled just like him. They feuded briefly, with Walker pummeling Joe Powell, the imposter. I've heard stories about Walker being a little rough on Powell, again I wish that this match be on tape, just to cure my curiosity. It became known later on that Powell was paid $5000 by the Superstar to impersonate II. Eadie gave Powell a beating for ratting him out, which culminated in II's last Georgia title reign, defeating the Superstar with Powell as the referee. II eventually drove Eadie out of the area in a shackle match. More...
