- Mike Campbell The column for this month is about one of my all time favorite wrestlers, Barry Windham. This column will only cover his career from 1988 and onward and all his info from before can be found in the Pick A Wrestler section. In 1988 Barry Windham had been in the NWA for about a year. He was one of wrestling's most popular wrestlers. In 1987 he had had some of the best matches of the year with Ric Flair who was the NWA World Champion. Flair himself acknowledged what a good wrestler Barry was and said he had a bright future but his problem was he was always a nice guy and didn't take shortcuts. For most wrestlers this wouldn't mean much however Barry Windham's father was Blackjack Mulligan who was a former tag team partner of Ric Flair and one of Flair's best friends. Barry Windham decided to stick to his guns and wrestle cleanly, He was the first UWF Western States Heritage Champion and had helped form the "Anti Horsemen" which was a group of wrestlers who all were feuding with The Four Horsemen: the group was Barry, Kendall Windham, Jimmy Garvin, Ronnie Garvin, and Lex Luger. Barry Windham started 1988 with a bad start as he lost his Western States title to Larry Zybysko thanks to outside interference. At the first Clash of Champions event on March 27, 1988 (the same day as WWF Wrestlemania IV to mess up the buyrate) Barry and Lex Luger won the NWA tag team titles form Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard. Unfortunately since Luger had left the Horsemen recently many people saw it as a win for Luger and not Luger and Windham or even for the Anti Horsemen. Barry Windham was no stranger to gold and felt happy for Luger to get his revenge but also felt left out of the victory. In a rematch against Tully and Arn for the belts Windham did something about it. Luger was in the ring getting pounded on (known as "playing Ricky Morton" according to Scott Keith) and tagged in Windham. Windham fought for a minute and looked for Luger who was on the floor getting a breath. When Luger got back on the apron Windham tagged him in and then suplexed him and left him for dead. Arn and Tully walked out with the titles and Windham was congratulating them. Back in the dressing room The Midnight Rider confronted Windham who responded by beating him down and left with the Horsemen in a limo and flashed four fingers to make it clear that The Horsemen were once again a unit of four.
