- Charles H. Karnes (with thanks to David Williamson) Southeastern’s Favorite Son - "The Tennessee Stud" Ron Fuller
East Tennessee had
been void of a hero ever since the passing of
the late Whitey Caldwell. With the promotion in
need of a revival they received one in 1974 in
the form of a 6’ 9” Tennessee Stud named Ron
Fuller.
When Fuller
purchased the Southeastern territory in 1974 he
already had a prime heel in place in Ron Wright.

territory, he needed a strong face the people
could relate to. He opted to book himself in the
role that would make him a legend.

crowd and sell an opponents offense better than

whole package together. Ron had wrestling in his
blood as he was the oldest son of the great

in the Georgia and Florida territories and
traveled throughout the south before calling
Knoxville his home. He was the holder of many
regional titles including the Georgia
Heavyweight Title and the Southern Championship.

though he was a heel in the Memphis region
during 1974 and 1975. He took a chance early in his career to venture
out in business by purchasing the NWA
Southeastern territory and moving to Knoxville
Tennessee to dedicate his efforts in making his
new promotion a success. Ron’s first programs in Knoxville included runs with Ron Wright. His feud with Wright made Ron and immediate star. Wright was so hated in the area that they were happy to see anyone get the advantage over him. Fuller frequently went head to head with him and when the feud was over he had came out on top and was number one in the fans eyes. More...
