Dory Funk
Jr. shoves down NWA “representative” Sandy Scott and gets suspended.
Not soon thereafter, a mysterious masked wrestler named “The Outlaw”
enters the area.
4th
– Jack & Jerry Brisco regain the NWA World Tag Team Titles by
defeating Wahoo McDaniel & Mark Youngblood in Spartanburg, South
Carolina.
21st
– Ricky Steamboat beats Dick Slater for the U.S. Heavyweight Title in
Greensboro, North Carolina.
22nd
– Angelo Mosca Jr. regains the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title from
Ivan Koloff in Charlotte, North Carolina and Ric Flair takes Steamboat
to a 60 minute draw again for the NWA title.
23rd
– Flair & Steamboat go 60 for a 2nd night in a row in
Greenville, South Carolina.

– Ric Flair battled Ricky Steamboat for a 3rd 60 minute
time limit draw in 5 days.

Tully
Blanchard & Johnny Weaver are commentating a match on TV, and Tully
has enough of Weaver and slaps the tar out of him, starting a brawl.

– Wahoo McDaniel & Mark Youngblood regain the NWA World Tag Team
Titles from The Brisco brothers in Greensboro, North Carolina.
8th
– Ivan Koloff & Don Kernodle end the reign of Wahoo McDaniel &
Mark Youngblood and win the NWA World Tag Team Titles in Raleigh, North
Carolina.
22nd
– The Outlaw (Dory Funk Jr.) beats Angelo Mosca Jr. for the
Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title.
June
Adrian Street loses a TV match to Jimmy Valiant and as Valiant goes to put a dress on Street, Miss Linda nails Valiant with her purse and they put the dress on Valiant.
Ric Flair is cutting a promo with Wahoo McDaniel on TV, but Wahoo starts complaining about lack of title shots and Ric tries to calm him down, then Tully Blanchard comes out and brawls with Flair and Wahoo just watches it go on. After Flair recovers, he confronts Wahoo about not helping him and Wahoo would turn a couple of weeks later.
Also during this time, Carlos Colon and The Invader (Jose Gonzalez) would wrestle at TV tapings because a Spanish station in New York City carried their own version of Mid-Atlantic Wrestling.
Jimmy Valiant unmasks Assassin #2 as Hercules Hernandez who would soon leave the territory.
6th – Ric Flair battles Harley Race to a DDQ in a Cage match for the NWA World Heavyweight Title in Raleigh, North Carolina.
24th
– Wahoo McDaniel beats Ricky Steamboat for the U.S. Heavyweight Title
in Greensboro, North Carolina.
27th
– Angelo Mosca Jr. regains the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title from The
Outlaw.
July
Dusty Rhodes is hired by Jim Crockett Jr. as the new head booker for Jim Crockett Promotions and the territory would never be the same.
Ric Flair & Wahoo McDaniel tear up the house show circuit in their matches for the NWA title.
Wahoo McDaniel retains his U.S. Heavyweight Title by defeating Ricky Steamboat, but Tully Blanchard interferes for Wahoo and the promotion strips Wahoo of his title.
Kamala, Buzz Sawyer, Mike Rotundo, & The Freebirds debut in the area for a short stint, but the biggest debut in the area is Nikita Koloff’s debut as he would become a big star in the next year.August
Scott Hall
& Dan Spivey make their big time professional debuts as The American
Starship.

Dillon enters the area as a manager and wrestles a few matches as well.
Barry
Windham returns to the area for a short stint, plus The Zambuie Express
(Leroy Brown & Ray Candy), & Manny Fernandez enter the area also
and as you can tell, Dusty was starting to bring in some of his Florida
cronies which was a huge blow to the Florida territory.

Dillon & The Long Riders invade Ricky Steamboat’s gym and cause a
ruckus to get Steamboat angry enough to defend his U.S. title against
Ron Bass.
25th
– The Long Riders (Ron Bass & Black Bart) enter the area as the
Mid-Atlantic Tag Team champs that was previously vacant since August
1983.
29th
– Ron Bass defeats Angelo Mosca Jr. for the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight
Title in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
September
Blackjack Mulligan returns to the area to help Ric Flair in his war against Wahoo McDaniel & Tully Blanchard. Also, Ric would team with Dusty against Wahoo & Tully.
Jim
Crockett would team up with Ole Anderson, Jerry Jarrett, & Verne
Gagne to create Pro Wrestling USA to compete with Vince McMahon’s
national expansion. The joint venture would fall apart in a few months.
So during this time the crowds in the JCP area would see different faces
such as: Tony Atlas, Butch Reed, Nick Bockwinkel, Tommy Rich, Jerry
Lawler, Dirty White Boys, Masa Saito, Rick Martel, Eddie Gilbert,
Fabulous Ones, Dutch Mantell, & Bob Backlund.
October
Buzz Tyler
makes his debut in the area.
Dick
Slater would turn babyface and help former enemies like Flair,
Steamboat, & Rhodes in their wars with the heels. Dusty always liked
to book Slater as a babyface when Slater was wrestling for him.
The
Assassin (Jody Hamilton) would turn babyface as well and help his former
enemy Jimmy Valiant in his war with Paul Jones.
7th
– Wahoo McDaniel beats Manny Fernandez in a tournament final for the
U.S. Heavyweight Title in Charlotte, North Carolina.
20th
– Manny Fernandez & Dusty Rhodes defeats Ivan Koloff & Don
Kernodle for the NWA World Tag Team Titles in Greensboro, North
Carolina.
November
22th
– Starrcade 84 takes place in Greensboro, North Carolina and is a huge
success with the main event of Ric Flair defeating Dusty Rhodes to
retain his NWA title and “winning” $1,000,000.
December
Superstar
Billy Graham would debut and Magnum T.A. would make his debut in the
area and become a huge star in the next year to come.
3 months
later, Jim Crockett would start his national expansion that would change
the wrestling world forever.
