Also, at
this time Angelo Mosca has taken over as the booker for Jim Crockett
Promotions, so Dory’s place in the promotion was becoming lower as
Mosca put Dory in teams with either himself or his son Angelo Jr., but
that would change in March as Dory turned on Angelo Jr. during a tag
match with Ivan Koloff & Don Kernodle. Funk turned heel and took
Gary Hart on as his manager and a few weeks later he shoved “NWA
representative” Sandy Scott during an interview and Dory was suspended
for a couple of months, but then a mysterious masked man named “The
Outlaw” entered and you know the rest. “The Outlaw” defeated
Angelo Mosca Jr. for the Mid-Atlantic Title on May 12th 1984
and held the title and held it for a month and a ½ before losing it
back to Mosca on June 27th. In July, Dory left JCP and
returned to Florida and stayed there on and off for the rest of the
year, then in January 1985, Dory returned to Jim Crockett Promotions and
became a member of J.J. Dillon’s stable, but he would only hang around
for a couple of months. Dory then became a freelancer until he signed
with the WWF in 1986.
