Jerry got Steamboat in the figure-four, but Jack "accidentally" fell back on Steamboat and injured Steamboat’s knee. This started one of the greatest feuds of the decade, as Steamboat claimed that Jack falling on him wasn’t accidental and the Briscos claimed it was accidental. This led up to a rematch on TV, where the Briscos finally turned heel and definitely tried to injure Steamboat’s knee. Jack and Jerry then went on a tear injuring Jim Nelson in an unscheduled match on TV, then they injured Johnny Weaver who was teaming with Bob Orton Jr. in a match on TV with a stuff piledriver, and then they gave a beating to the team of Jimmy Valiant and Rufus R. Jones on TV. They finally beat Steamboat and Youngblood on June 18th 1983 for the belts in Greenville, South Carolina and they held the belts for almost 4 months until Steamboat and Youngblood regained the belts on October 3rd 1983, but their reign didn’t last long as Jack and Jerry regained the belts on October 21st 1983 in Richmond, Virginia.
This led up to the firstt Starrcade on November 24th 1983 in Greensboro, North Carolina, where Jack and Jerry defended the belts against Steamboat and Youngblood with Angelo Mosca as referee. Steamboat and Youngblood regained the belts in a tremendous match, but Jack and Jerry regained their heat as they cleaned house on the faces after the match. For the next few months, Jack and Jerry bounced in and out of the area and then on April 4th, 1984, they regained the NWA Tag belts for the third time by defeating the team of Wahoo McDaniel and Mark Youngblood in Spartanburg, South Carolina and over the next month they feuded with the Youngbloods and Wahoo for the belts until May 5th 1984, where Wahoo and Mark won the belts back in Greensboro, North Carolina. Soon thereafter, Jack and Jerry left the area and went up north to the WWF.
NEXT MONTH:
We will look at a few wrestlers that either didn’t last long in the area or while they were there they never made an impact in the territories.
