- Max Levy This month we’ll take a look at the greatest feuds in the storied history of Mid-South Wrestling. There are so many to choose from and some people may choose differently, but here are my picks. 10. Bill Watts and Hacksaw Duggan vs. Devastation Inc. 1985 General Skandor Akbar and Devastation Inc. were running roughshod in Mid-South Wrestling in 1985. Akbar had Kamala the Ugandan Giant back in the fold and also had the massive Kareem Muhammed in the ranks. Hacksaw Jim Duggan, ever the patriot, stood in Devastation Inc.’s path battling Akbar and company all over the Mid-South territory. The feud took an ugly turn on May 4, 1985 in Jackson, MS. Akbar threw a gigantic fireball into Duggan’s face as Hacksaw had Kamala on the run. There were worries that Hacksaw’s career may be finished as he was hospitalized for weeks. The General even tried to burn Watts with a fireball as well, burning Mike Graham in the process. It all came down to a major showdown August 10, 1985 at the Superdome in front of 15,000 fans. In a huge upset, Akbar, Kamala, and Kareem Muhammed cheated their way to victory over Watts and Duggan in a handicap match. Watts was now banned from Mid-South for 90 days. However a masked man called The Midnight Rider, who bore a striking resemblance to Watts, entered Mid-South Wrestling seeking revenge. Akbar and the rest of Devastation quickly jumped ship, leaving Mid-South Wrestling rather than feel The Midnight Rider’s wrath. Although the feud ended abruptly, justice was served and when Watts returned, he and Duggan stood tall as the victors. More...
