Owen Family 60th Anniversary Extravaganza - Mike Rodgers Jesse Ventura debuted in Portland on 10/4/75. On that night in Portland he beat The Calypso Kid, Lenny Hurst. Ventura was a frizzy haired muscular wrestler who used the full nelson as his finisher that night. Ventura also immediately began teaming with Apache Bull Ramos. Ramos had been the top heel in the area for the previous 3 years so this was a top spot. Ventura had been to several areas briefly before his Portland debut, but he was still green. As a team Ramos & Ventura beat Pat & Mike Kelly, Jimmy Snuka & Ricky Hunter, Jimmy Snuka & Johnny Eagles, BIll Francis & Calypso Kid, Jimmy Snuka & Bill Francis, Jimmy Snuka & Dutch Savage, Geoff Portz & Johnny Eagles. In a singles match Ventura also claimed a win over Jimmy Snuka. Probably the most interesting thing was, that, as a person who would make his mark with his mouth, Ventura didn't say one word in his Portland interviews. Ramos did all the talking. Ventura starting 76 just as hot. On Janurary 17th he won the NW title from Jimmy Snuka. He held the title for 3 1/2 months before losing it to Dutch Savage. In June of that year he regained the NW title and went on to hold it over 8 months which was the 2nd longest title reign for the NW title. It also proved the promotion had some confidence in Ventura. Ventura and Ramos also held the tag titles several times during 76 trading the titles back and forth with The Royal Kangaroos in some brutal matches. Midway through 76, Ramos & Ventura started to have problems. Ramos started slapping Ventura when things started going wrong in the partnership. Enter Buddy Rose who started teaming with Jesse Ventura. Finally in a 6 person tag match, it finally exploded and Ventura & Rose double teamed Bull Ramos to end their partnership. Rose and Ventura teamed up calling themselves The Younger Generation. On October 23, 1976, they became tag champs beating Dutch Savage & Jimmy Snuka. Ventura also feuded with Bull Ramos beating him nearly every time they met. More...
