- Will Gonzalez As the year of 1983 was ending many top wrestlers entered the area: one of the stars was Exotic Adrian Street with his valet Miss Linda, another was a future star Al Perez who would have a feud with the Exotic One, and finally a new Sheepherder Butch Miller who was to wreak havoc in his short time in Texas. Over the last few months of the year Jon Boyd had put together the "Commonwealth Army" his army included "The Sheepherders, The Fabulous Blondes (Eric Embry and Ken Timbs), and Adrian Street. The group of wrestlers were out to cripple any wrestler that stood in there way. All rules were thrown out the window as they attempted to eliminate all the top faces in the area, over a few months they injured Bobby Jaggers, Scott Casey, and Al Perez. Another feud that also began was one between Boyd and promoter Joe Blanchard. It seemed that Blanchard had seen enough of Boyd's troops and at times would attempt to break up Boyd's wrestlers attacks on certain wrestlers and many times Boyd and Blanchard would go at them themselves. Blanchard had a good group of wrestlers backing him up including: Scott Casey, Manny Fernandez, Al Perez, Bobby Jaggers, Bob Sweetan, Bobby Fulton, Tony Falk, and on occasion Wahoo McDaniel, Ivan Putski and Tully Blanchard. The SCW champ at this time was Scott Casey who had defeated Tully Blanchard before he left the area. He fought off the challenges of the Commonwealth Army... another hot feud in the area involved the SCW tag team titles where the Blondes were the champs and were facing the team of Bobby Fulton and Tony Falk. The Blondes pulled out all stops to keep their titles. In a match in San Antonio the Blondes hoped to eliminate Fulton by trying to break his neck. Eric Embry first delivered a pile driver from the middle rope, and then another on the ringside table. Fulton was out for a few weeks but came back later but he and Falk were unable to win the tag team titles. The SCW Jr belt held by Relampago Leon also produced a hot feud. Adrian Street with help from his valet Miss Linda attempted everything in their power to win the belt. Often Linda tried to interfere but to no avail. After a televised bout involving Leon out of nowhere came Street and Linda attacking Leon and embarrassing him by putting lipstick on him and stealing his belt. This all but made the feud even hotter as Street tried everything to win the belt. Late in the year Boyd added another wrestler for his stable, Voodoo Mulamba called the Cannibal entered the area as a top threat. He was ruthless in his matches often looking to hurt his foe and always looking for blood. Boyd was thrilled with his new find. During a televised match between the Sheepherders and Buddy Moreno and Relampago Leon, the Commonwealth Army stormed the ringside area and dragged Moreno back to the dressing room. After a few minutes Mulamba came back to ringside with Moreno on his shoulders with blood on his hands and mouth... the Voodoo man threw Moreno in the ring and left back to the dressing room. As the year was coming to an end it seemed the talent was getting better but there would be some problems once 1984 rolled around in the SCW area. NEXT MONTH: Join me as we take a look at 1984 and see some big guns make some appearances in the area.
