December 1983 – January 1984 - Max Levy The Action Never Stops After
a heck of a fall, things did not slow down as 1983 ended and 1984 began.
The Von Erichs battled with The Freebirds. Chris Adams and Jimmy Garvin
had many exciting bouts and often took second place as their valets
Sunshine and Precious continued their emotional feud. Iceman Parsons
pursued The Super Destroyers. Skandor Akbar and Devastation Incorporated
still lurked about. There was always plenty happening so let’s get to
it. A
Peek at the Roster The
talent roster stayed pretty much the same as during the preceding
months. Of course Kevin, David, Kerry, and Mike Von Erich remained the
top babyfaces. Iceman King Parsons and Chris Adams were also immensely
popular, as was Chris’ valet Sunshine. Jose Lothario and Mike Reed
helped fill out the roster. Johnny Mantell was headed out of the
promotion, but was finishing up his obligations. On the heel side,
General Skandor Akbar’s Devastation Incorporated was as strong as ever
with The Super Destroyers I and II on hand as well as The Missing Link
and Kamala along with his handler Friday. Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin
continued to cause mayhem along with Precious at his side. Terry Gordy
and Buddy Roberts still represented The Fabulous Freebirds and soon a
loophole would return Michael Hayes to World Class rings. Black Gordman
was on his way out. However Kelly Kiniski was on his way in and would
soon become a fixture. There were some assorted undercard wrestlers on
both sides, but World Class continued to run with a smaller crew. The Title Scene The title scene was fairly stable. As always, the
Texas Title was the exclusive property of David Von Erich. Kevin, David,
and Kerry captured the Six Man Title on December 2, 1983. They beat
Terry Gordy, Buddy Roberts, and Ric Flair subbing for Michael Hayes who
was banned after dropping a loser leaves town match. In January The
Freebirds won the title back under complex circumstances. The American
Title bounced between Jimmy Garvin and Chris Adams. The Super
Destroyers’ American Tag Title run was interrupted only by a brief
reign of Iceman Parsons and Brian Adias. Adias and Super Destroyer I
also had stints with the ever volatile TV Title. Christmas
Star Wars, Sunday December 25, 1983, Reunion Arena, Dallas As
usual when feuds raged out of control, all roads led to Reunion Arena in
downtown Dallas. All the glory was on the line for this spectacular show:
