- Manuel Gonzalez Wrestling in Puerto Rico has produced a few superstars that has traveled the world. But in the island of Puerto Rico, the main eventer for the past 27 years has been the man known as the acrobat of Puerto Rico (Acróbata de Puerto Rico), Carlos Colón. Carlos Colón was born on July 18, 1948. Some magazines and publications listed him as been born on 1945, but the real birthdate is 1948. It is probably that Colón used a false birthdate to begin wrestling, as he began in wrestling in 1965 in New York, at age 17. Although no information was found on Colón's first years as a pro wrestler, it has been widely reported that he used a Hawaiian gimmick, known as Prince Kahulia, probably in Kansas City, and an Indian gimmick, known as Chief White Feather. He worked for Stampede Wrestling in the 70's, where he was a tag team champion with Gino Caruso (better known to east US fans as Pete Sanchez) after they defeated Michel Martel (who died in Puerto Rico in June 30, 1978 after a match in Ponce against Invader #1, about 30 minutes after the match, when Invader used a heartpunch) and Danny Babich (who was known in Puerto Rico as Daniel Martel). In Stampede we also worked against Archie Gouldie, Gama Singh, Tor Kamata and Abdullah The Butcher. Colón traveled to Puerto Rico in late 1973 and along with several wrestlers, mainly Victor Jovica (who also competed at the time in Stampede as The Hungarian Dog or something like that) and founded Capital Sports Promotions. The first show of the promotion was held on January 6, 1974. Colón and Caruso wrestled on that show, defeating Huracan Castillo and Maravilla to become North American tag team champions, losing them back to Castillo and Maravilla (who were known in Canada as The Castillo Brothers). His first years at WWC were great, as Colón was a great performer and was great at both singles and tag team matches. During the 70's he had great matches against a lot of wrestlers, like Cowboy Bob Ellis, Eric The Red, Abdullah The Butcher, The Samoans, Ox Baker, Kendo Kimura, the Martel Family, Dutch Mantel, Hartford Love, Gorilla Monsoon, Gil Hayes, Ernie Ladd, just to mention some of his feuds he had on the 70's. During the 70's he held the Tag Team Title once (with Jose Rivera, defeating The Kangaroos and losing it against The Samoans). He was North American champion (the top title in the 70's) seven times, wining it from Gil Hayes and trading it with Pierre Martell, Spoiler #1, Bob Ellis, Eric The Red and losing it to Hartford Love.
