I am often asked what was the funniest
in the ring experience of my career was. I have had a lot of them,
some planned and some totally unexpected. I will share a few
of them with you and judge...
A spot show in Brazleton, Ga. with a very small crowd. You might recognize the name Brazelton, Ga., that is the town Kim Basinger bought a few years ago but has since sold. She couldn't draw there either... Opening match Ted Heath under a hood wrestling Dean Ho. Dean Ho is one of the true gentlemen of our business. He was funny, polite and a joy to work with. Dean also had the weakest stomach of anyone I ever met in the business. Ted tells me to stay back a little and watch... He gets Dean down on the mat and goes for a pin, but rather than pinning him he kisses him right in the mouth and I am not sure but maybe slipped him a little tongue... Dean squeals like a wildcat, rolls over and crawls on his stomach to the apron and proceeds to throw up. The sparse crowd is yelling at me that the masked man has almost choked him to death and all Ted and I can do is laugh... A spot show in Dudley, Ga. where Rocky Johnson and Ray Candy were a tag-team. I do not remember who they were working with but again the crowd was very small. Rocky convinced Ray that when he gave him the hot tag and he should jump the top rope and make this big comeback. Ray was a wonderful human being and a good worker, but he was not the jump the top rope type. His build was more the jump through the ropes comeback type. The entire match we pumped Ray so he would try it. We even loosened the top rope so it would sag a little. Rocky fought and fought until he reached Ray and gave him the tag. What few people we had there popped and Ray leaped almost over the top rope. His back foot caught the rope and flipped him upside down with his feet wrapped in the ropes. The heels laughed so hard they could not attack him, I laughed so hard I could not help him and Rocky just laid on the floor and cried with laughter... Boys in the business that have an extensive amateur background are very proud of that background and well they should be. There are a lot of us in the business that got lucky breaks to be there, but the guys that worked their way up through the ranks are a special breed and are treated with a great deal of respect, that is of course unless you are willing to take a little liberty now and then... Vidalia, Ga. ...Rocky Johnson and Jerry Brisco against Lorenzo Parente and Nickolai Volkoff... A great match with seasoned workers who made it a pleasure to be in the ring. We had been at it for about thirty minutes with up and down action and a good bit of heat on the heels. Brisco who had that amateur background and was well liked by everyone I ever knew was in the ring and he grabbed a headlock on Parente who immediately called for a criss-cross, drop down, hip-toss. Boom they are criss-crossing and Jerry drops down... Lorenzo pounced on his back and I dropped down and screamed as loud as I could... TWO-POINTS!! Brisco came up screaming like an Indian on the war path. Lorenzo jumped out of the ring, I jumped out of the ring, Rocky and Nickolai jumped off the apron and we all just stood on the floor watching Jerry run in circles and yell he was going to kill us... The funny part to us afterwards was the fans never had a clue what went on... More next month...
