In  the last part of 1967 Lee had to make a choice. The politics in Louisiana was getting worse because of the money we started drawing. Everyone was trying to get their fingers in the pie. Plus the trips were so long for the boys... some had to come from Quiency, Fl. and sometimes Tallahassee Fl. on Sat. night all the way to Morgan City La. on Monday night.

Some would make Dothan, Al. on Friday night and have to make TV Sat. in Lafayette. The TV programs back then were all live. We had  TV in Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Mobile and Dothan that also put a strain on the top boys. Lee decided rather than pay out most of the money to politicians and hear the boys complain about the trips, we would just pull out. So we packed up and left Louisiana.

I was heart broken, my wife liked it in Lafayette, the kids had their friends and were doing good in school. But we had to pack up and head to Mobile.  I had enough time before we shut down Louisiana to buy a house and furniture in Mobile so we finally had a place we could call home. This was in the early part of 1968. I was working for Rocky McQuire again. I didn't like it but it wasn't to bad at first. Lee had talked about opening up the southern part of Mississippi before we closed Louisiana. He told me Don and Bobby was going to open it and promote it. Lee asked me if I would help them. So we opened Mississippi, from Meridian  to Gulfport. Don Fields got us on Meridian, Hattiesburg and Biloxi TV. We opened up Laruel on Monday, Hattiesburg on Thursday, Meridian on Friday and Gulfport on Saturday. Then in Sept. of 1968, I defeated Rocket Monroe for the Mississippi State Title in Hattiesburg. I am getting closer to the Gulf Coast Title. More next month.
