The Gulf Coast Wrestling territory really started to pick up in 1970 Rocky started taking better care of his end and not worrying about what was going on in Mobile and Pensacola. The whole thing was doing better after awhile. I think by July 1970 the territory was doing better than it ever had. And was getting better. Rocky and I were trying to see who could make Lee Fields the most money. And Lee was loving it. Rocky was a very good promoter and booker. Like I said, I learned a lot from watching Rocky.

I stayed refereeing, opening up the cards and wrestling with different partners, until I was sure the people felt like they were watching me grow up right in front of their eyes. Then I started getting involved in more things to see how the people were going to buy me. I had a lot of very good wrestlers to over come. I wanted for the people to be convinced I could hold my own with anyone. I was hoping to see the day that if someone like like Ken Lucas or Bobby Fields would get into trouble they would look for me to help them and not someone else. So I started wrestling some of the top boys and getting involved in tag matches with Bobby Fields and Ken Lucas as my partners. I had some good matches with the Blue Yankees with Ken Lucas as a partner. I broke out of the tag match with the Big Blue Yankee in a single and had several matches with him. I proved to the people I could take care of myself.

But the thing that really got me over for good, was the fight for the Gulf Coast Championship Belt that I had with The Mysterious Masked Medic. I will tell you all about it next month. The Medic (Tony Gonzales) passed away March 3rd 2002. He was one of the best. MAY HE REST IN PEACE.
