- David Klink This Shoot Interview was conducted at the RF Video Office and is a 2 Hour Interview with an additional 15 minutes of matches. It's remarkable how Chris Adams can remember dates, names, people and places. Chris did Judo for 14 years with his brother It was through a friend that Chris was introduced to the world of wrestling. Dynamite Kid impressed him enough to "spark" his interest in the sport. In 1978 Chris started wrestling for the first time in England with a tag team partner by the name of Big Daddy. With help from Yasu Fuji and his contact of Mike Labell in the United States Chris was granted a working Visa and in 1981 The Gentlemen came to Los Angeles, CA. His first impression of LA : "These Yankees are crazy" During this time he teamed with Tom Prichard as well as shared the same girlfriends with him. Chris Adams then mentions his time in New Japan working for Antonio Inoki who respected Chris Adams brother and well as Chris himself. He talks about the classic battles with Tiger Mask and Fujinami during which he was a WWWF Junior Title Holder. (two of these matches are included and are very good! although the play by play is in Japanese) Mexico was also a place Chris visited to wrestle spending 6 months learning more and more from each match. Chris Adams then goes back to talking about wrestling in Portland in the year 1982 for Don Owens. It is here that he is introduced to the "backstabbing" side of wrestling and the politics that are ever present. The best two examples he gives is of Matt Borne, Brett Sawyer (brother of Buzz) always in the office talking to Don Owens giving their opinions. Chris mentions a story of how Don Owens would pay $20 or $30 to the wrestlers to have shoot fights in the locker rooms. Also talks about Dr. D. David Shultz and the Jeckyl and Hyde personality he had. The temper that was so weird that Shultz even slapped Adams during a match. The best and most lengthy part of the interview is when Chris Adams talks about 1983 and WCCW. He almost went back home to England if it wasn't for Don Owens who called Fritz Von Erich to checkout Adams. He also heard from the Samoans that the Dallas, TX territory was going to be on fire. When he finally got to World Class Championship Wrestling he was in awe of the territory and the Von Erichs instantly took a liking to him. There are so many stories and people that Chris mentions I'll give a few samples but the tape really speaks for itself. With Ken Mantell as the WCCW booker and the locker room buzzing Chris Adams had a feud with Jimmy Garvin and his valet Sunshine. Interesting point Chris makes is that Sunshine was really Garvin's cousin and they really "hated' each other.
