- Steven L. Speed Hello Global Wrestling Federation fans! I'm Steven L. Speed. In this month's installment, I’m talking about a tag team of two brothers… Booker T and Stevie Ray this team, known in the GWF as the Ebony Experience, later to be called Harlem Heat. The Ebony Experience appeared in the GWF in the spring of 1992, as a mid-card team but soon, they gained the attention of the fans as fan favorites and won the GWF Tag Team titles on July 31, 1992 from the Goodfellows (Gary Young and Steven Dane) managed by Gen. Skandor Akbar. During this title reign, they wrestled and defeated all teams who were top contenders for the titles. But, the team of Black Bart and Johnny Mantell better known as the Rough Riders, also managed by Gen. Skandor Akbar, posed a threat to the Ebony Experience and ended their first GWF tag title reign on October 23, 1992. During this time period, the Ebony Experience failed to regain the tag titles from the Rough Riders and dropped in the GWF tag team ranks. During this down period though, they had a manager named Gaston B. Means who tried to get them to convert to heels. Mr. Means' managing was at times valuable but it also led to several losses for the Ebony Experience. Eventually, Booker T and Stevie Ray, with the help of their sister, managed to fire Gaston B. Means. Means then found a new team to manage, Axl and Ian Rotten better known as Bad Breed. Means led Bad Breed to the tag titles on January 29, 1993 with a win over the Texas Mustangs (John Hawk (Bradshaw of the Acolytes) and the late Bobby Duncum Jr.). During this period, Stevie Ray was working his way up the singles ranks in the GWF and was awarded the GWF North American title on February 20, 1993 when Rod Price was stripped of the title during a tour of Japan. But, six days later on February 26, the Ebony Experience defeated Bad Breed for their second and final reign as GWF tag team champions. Stevie Ray became the only wrestler in the GWF to hold the North American and tag team title at the same time. The Experience held the titles until May 7, 1993 where they lost the titles to the Sicilian Stallions (Guido Falcone and Vito Mussolini). Stevie Ray and Booker T left the GWF in June, 1993 for World Championship Wrestling. Stevie Ray and Booker T later became Kane and Kole where the gimmick led them to be jobbers but later became Harlem Heat and later used their old GWF names which led them to hold the WCW World Tag Team title on a record of TEN different occasions. Booker T to six WCW World TV reigns and a WCW World Heavyweight title while Stevie Ray held the WCW World TV title once. These two wrestlers was one of many wrestlers to go on to fame in the WCW, WWF and ECW. More...
