Two Blondes and a Bulldog The year 1982 was an exciting one for All Star Wrestling fans. It was the year that one of All Star’s brightest stars debuted, Sonny Myers. Myers brought a real energy to the ring and a highflying style mixed with a little rock n roll. Sonny got off to a great start winning a battle royal in Vancouver on January 11/82 and formed a top face tag team with Dean Ho. The two got over big with the fans in early 1982, especially Ho who received accolades from the fans after putting Sgt Tomko in a neck brace with his patented sleeper hold. In 1982 the people’s army would split up with Sgt Tomko attacking partner Igor Volkoff and turning him fan favorite. During a TV match Volkoff also claimed to have beat Terry Funk in Puerto Rico in front of 18,000 fans. The Torres Brothers introduced the gold straps into the area in 1982 and the titles instantly became the goal of several Vancouver area teams. The Torres brothers came to town with the belts apparently winning them in a tourney at the start of the year. The Puerto Rican brothers Ramon, at 235 lbs., and Ricky the 225lb 5th year pro, had apparently battled in England and Puerto Rico and were adversaries of fan favorites Art Crews and Billy White Cloud. There stay in the area was brief and so was there title reign as they dropped the belts before leaving the territory. More...
