- Tony D. On May 21, 1987, Rufus R. Jones defeated “Bulldog” Bob Brown for the Central States Heavyweight Title in Kansas City, Kansas. Early in June of 1987, Rufus R. Jones made his first title defense on TV, against Mr. Pogo. Rick Stewart is in the ring to make introductions for this match. Rick Stewart: Ladies and Gentlemen, this match one fall, 60 minutes, for The Central States Heavyweight Championship. The challenger, advised at ringside by “The Boss” Pork Chop Cash, Japan’s Mr. Pogo. The defending champion weighs 263 pounds, Amarillo Texas, The Central States Heavyweight Champion, Rufus R. Jones. By special stipulation, Karate is legal in this match. The bell rings and Mr. Pogo and Rufus R. Jones circle each other and then they lock up collar and elbow. Rufus pushes Mr. Pogo back into the ropes, and Rufus with a clean break. They lock up again and this time, Mr. Pogo backs Rufus into the ropes, and Mr. Pogo with a clean break! They lock up for a third time and Rufus backs Mr. Pogo into the corner, another clean break. They lock up for a third time and Rufus backs Mr. Pogo into the corner, another clean break. Pogo gets out of the corner. Back heel trip by Pogo. He grabs onto the leg of Rufus R. Jones. Rufus is on his back on the mat and he uses both feet to push Mr. Pogo off. PCC: Oh, nice move, I haven’t seen Rufus do something like that, I haven’t seen it. But Rufus getting on the ball. RS: Very strange to hear compliments out of your mouth, Mr. Cash. PCC: Hey, I give ‘em where they belong, Rick Stewart. I never cheat and I never take nothing from nobody. RS: Excuse me? PCC: No, sir. I never cheat and I never take no way... They lock up again and Rufus with an armbar. Rufus gives the arm a twist and Rufus with another twist. PCC: Oh very nice from Rufus. Now if he were to wrestle me now that’d be a different story. RS: You’re listening of course to the highly prejudiced comments of “The Boss” Pork Chop Cash. No, I take that back, Sir, you’ve been very fair in your analysis so far. Mr. Pogo reverses the armbar. Rufus reverses the armbar again and drives Mr. Pogo to the mat. Pogo gets back to a vertical base. RS: Mr. Cash has brought a pair of nunchuku’s here with him to the desk, Sir? PCC: You better watch out, I’m liable to hit you in the head, Rick Stewart, but I don’t wanna hurt you. RS: Well, I appreciate that Sir. Rufus R. Jones in his first title defense on TV. Very, very important match for Rufus, but then again, a very important match for Mr. Pogo... PCC: That’s it. More...
