- Mike Campbell Pretend this isn't a website about old time wrestling. Picture this: You're at the arena and music like Backstreet Boys plays and out come two blondes in pink tights holding skateboards and calling themselves the Dynamic Dudes. What do you do? You'd boo and cheer for them to get killed right? Well in 1989 the fans did the same thing and for the first time the faces got booed and the heels got cheered. In 1989 former UWF TV champion Shane Douglas and former Sheepherder flag waver Johnny Ace teamed up to form "The Dynamic Dudes". Their gimmick was that they were cool guys who liked to skateboard, or hold a skateboard. The females loved them and cheered them non stop, however in 1989 wrestling fans were mostly male and males couldn't stand them. They were so hated that when they made their PPV debut at Wrestlewar '89 against Paul E. Dangerously's team of Fatu and Samu the Samoan Swat Team. The fans who hated Dangerously's guts were actually cheering him on but it was for nothing as the Dudes won. In July at The Great American Bash they fought Sid Vicious and Dan Spivey The Sky Scrapers. It was a pretty brutal match and after Ace got power bombed it was over. The 1989 power bombs were different though, you didn't put someone over 2 feet in the air and drop them unless someone else held the man so he wouldn't break his neck. After a 1989 power bomb Ace was done and the crowd loved it. Soon after James E. Cornette (Corny) told the Dudes that he was impressed by what he saw and offered to become an advisor for them. He pointed out the success of The Midnight Express and told the Dudes they could be as great. It seemed like a good plan and only one problem. The Midnight Express were angry and felt that Corny was losing his faith in them. For about four months Corny was a manager to Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane the Midnight Express who only fell down the ladder in terms on wins and losses and advised the Dudes to victories over such great teams as The Varsity Club, The Royal Family, and even the Freebirds. The Midnights told Corny to choose between either the Dudes who were new or them who had already achieved more and could do it again. The Midnight Express fought the Dudes with the winners getting the managerial services of Corny. The Midnights looked better than they had in months. The Dudes improvement was amazing. In the end Corny hit Stan Lane with his tennis racket to give the Dudes the win. More...
