- Kris Zellner This month we will look at the greatest moments and matches from Starrcade 83, 84, and 85. The first two Starrcade’s were held in the Greensboro Coliseum, but in 1985, they split the show in Greensboro and The Omni in Atlanta. At the time, Starrcade was the premier wrestling show in the entire country, but Wrestlemania debuted in 1985 and it changed everything. Starrcade 83 Gordon Solie and Bob Caudle called the show live on closed circuit television and the show was really good. Here are the results. The Assassins (Jody Hamilton & Ray Hernandez) vs. Rufus R. Jones/Bugsy McGraw - The Assassins pick up the win in a bad match. Johnny Weaver/Scott McGhee vs. Mark Lewin/Kevin Sullivan - Sullivan has came in from Florida and has toned down the devil gimmick for Crockett and the heels bloody McGhee with the "Golden Spike" until Angelo Mosca (who was also feuding with Sullivan in Florida, before jumping to JCP) tries to make a save, but he gets attacked as well. Abdullah The Butcher vs. Carlos Colon - This is a wild brawl that ends when Hugo Savinovich runs in and helps Abby get the win on his longtime rival. Wahoo McDaniel/Mark Youngblood vs. Dick Slater/Bob Orton Jr. - Slater and Orton picked up the win and "injured" Wahoo’s arm after the match. Kabuki vs. Charlie Brown aka Jimmy Valiant for the NWA T.V. Title - Valiant is wearing a half-mask that obviously showed the fans that he was Brown, defeated Kabuki for the belt. Roddy Piper vs. Greg Valentine in a Dog Collar Chain Match - A very bloody match where Valentine goes after Piper’s ear, but Piper picks up the victory. Valentine goes after Piper after the match and strangles him with the chain. Ricky Steamboat/Jay Youngblood vs. Jack/Jerry Brisco for the NWA Tag Team Titles with Angelo Mosca as the referee - This was the usual great match between these two teams. Steamboat & Youngblood won the belts, but the Brisco’s cleaned house on the faces after the match. More...
